Coronavirus and the Library

As of 8/21/2020, the library facilities will be open to EU students, faculty, and staff. However, in order to support social distancing the Evangel University Libraries have implemented a number of temporary modifications to our library services.

We encourage all users to continue to take advantage of our subscribed online resources and services and to check out our Open Access Resources page for links to freely available online resources. If you require assistance, feel free to call a library location directly, reach out to us via our Ask-A-Librarian form, or place a request for a specific resource using our Copy Request form.

Library Hours and Access

  • The EU Kendrick and AGTS Library buildings are open to current EU students, faculty, and staff for the services specified on this page.
  • Others desiring guest access to one of the libraries should contact the library in advance to determine current policies and procedures.
  • Library hours for the current week will be posted on the library home page.
  • Appropriately distanced study spaces are available for individual researchers.
  • In accordance with Evangel University policies and city ordinance, all library patrons will be required to wear facial coverings while in library facilities.
  • No food is allowed in the libraries at this time. Water bottles or drinks with a closed lid are still permitted.
  • Individuals will be required to checkin and checkout at the circulation desk for any kind of access to a library facility. Further instructions will be provided depending on your desired use.

Returning Checked Out Materials

  • The EU libraries are now accepting returned books and other checked out library items.
  • Review your account for all items currently checked out at
  • A designated book return station will be established at each library location. Library staff can direct you to the correct location.
  • You will leave your books as directed and the library staff will process them after a one week quarantine period. All check-in dates will be adjusted in our circulation system to reflect the actual day that you returned each item.

Circulation of Physical Materials

  • Standard loan periods and loan rules are reinstated.
  • Interlibrary borrowing and lending of books from other libraries, including MOBIUS, will resume.  MOBIUS lending and borrowing is scheduled to resume on 8/31/2020
  • When requesting materials from other libraries, be sure to anticipate in your planning the need to allow for some extra time to receive the requested items due to the book quarantine procedures currently in place at Evangel as well as most libraries throughout the country.
  • Local and resident students, faculty and staff are encouraged to place holds on books through the online catalog as much as reasonably possible.  Library staff will retrieve requested items and you will receive an email pick up notice informing you when the items are available to be retrieved from the library's circulation desk.
  • We continue to encourage you to request digital copies of materials such as journal articles or a chapter from a book as much as reasonably possible.
  • Those wishing to retrieve books directly from the library shelves will be provided instructions at a library circulation desk.
  • In the event that you are required to access items that have been placed on Course Reserves you will be required to wear gloves provided by the library while handling to avoid the need to quarantine high demand materials.

Accessing the Library's Online Resources

  • All current students and faculty will be able to access the library's online resources from on or off campus through their library accounts.
  • Students may view a brief video demonstration of the login process or review the detailed print instructions.
  • These instructions apply to faculty as well.  However, faculty will need to check their staff portal home page or with library staff for their library account ID. 
  • Students are not required to contact the library to set up access but are certainly encouraged to do so if they experience any problems or are unsure of the process.

Research in the Library

  • A number of individual study spaces as well as several library computers are available at each library location.
  • Students wishing to study in the library will need to check in at the library’s Circulation Desk.
  • Facial coverings are required while using study spaces.
  • Keep at least 6 feet distance between yourself and others.
  • Choose an available spot and stay there to do your work.
  • Leave the furniture in place.  Study spaces have been set up to maintain at least 6 feet distance.
  • No food is allowed in the libraries at this time.  Water bottles or drinks with a closed lid are still permitted.
  • Students who wish to retrieve books from the reference shelves should request assistance and instructions from staff at the Circulation Desk.
  • Students are required to check out at the Circulation Desk before leaving the library.
  • Study spaces will be cleaned and disinfected after each use.

Research Assistance

  • Students, faculty, and staff needing assistance or research guidance are encouraged to submit an Ask-A-Librarian form or to call the library during operating hours: at (417) 865-2815 ext. 7268 for EU Kendrick ; (417) 268-1058 for AGTS.
  • Library staff will also be available to provide assistance to students in the library in a manner consistent with EU’s current health and safety social distancing practices.
